About the Raisin Gang

The Raisin Gang are a Toronto based sketch comedy troupe with a knack for making themselves laugh. Having spent their lives laughing alone, throwing out jokes only to be met with stoney faced silence, members of The Gang were brought together through RIOT — a 60-year tradition of sketch comedy at Ryerson University — where they each finally found someone to laugh with. So they racked their brains, made up some jokes and put on shows for their classmates. To everyone’s surprise the audience laughed and so began our heroes’ dehabilitating addiction to comedy.

And so The Raisin Gang was born. With an extended revolving-door membership that hovers around a half dozen people — current members include Marissa Bernice, Tom Conway, Kye Fox, Mikey Kolberg and Daniel Kurland — there is never a shortage of chefs in this comedy kitchen. Sketches range from sophisticated to dark to scatological to non-sensical. Will they have long winded discussions about theatre etiquette? Yes. Will men wear dresses? Of course. Will there be stories about flies coming out of urethras? Do you even need to ask! (Just to be clear the answer is yes) The Raisin Gang will do what ever it takes to leave the audience laughing, gasping and totally confused.

The Raisin Gang were official selections to the 5th annual Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, winners of Second City’s Class Warfare competition in 2009, and their material has screened on The Comedy Network and on the short-lived Jay Leno Show.
